So... Where's the AI?

I had a meeting recently with a potential client—a room (or Google Meet screen, to be more accurate) filled with around 10 people from 3-4 different departments. After presenting Lunash’s products, PredicAI and Engage360, I opened the floor for questions. You know, the usual end-of-presentation Q&A session where you're hoping for thoughtful, engaged questions.

One person unmuted herself and hit me with something I didn’t quite expect:

“So… where’s the AI?”

It was one of those moments where you pause, not because you’re caught off guard, but because the question itself was refreshingly direct. After explaining for a good 20 minutes how PredicAI uses machine learning and Engage360 automates borrower engagement, I realized something: when people hear "AI" nowadays, their minds immediately go to chatbots, voice assistants, and the likes of ChatGPT. And here I was talking about machine learning models that predict borrower behavior and automation tools designed to make life easier for businesses.

The question wasn’t meant to challenge—more so to clarify. It made me realize that, in a world where AI is often synonymous with chatbots, the full spectrum of what AI can do sometimes gets lost.

I explained that AI isn’t a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. It’s an umbrella term that covers a wide range of technologies. There’s machine learning (PredicAI), there’s automation (Engage360), and yes, there are chatbots too. But while large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are impressive, they’re just one part of the bigger picture.

With PredicAI, for example, we’re not generating text or holding conversations. We’re using machine learning to analyze data and predict borrower behavior—helping businesses make smarter, faster decisions. And with Engage360, we’re not building robots to take over the world (at least not yet). Instead, it’s an intelligent automation tool that helps businesses engage with borrowers in a more personalized and scalable way.

In a world where flashy AI like chatbots tends to steal the spotlight, Lunash is more like the Brunello Cucinelli of AI—refined, understated, but delivering incredible quality where it matters most. It doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. If you know, you know.

The question reminded me of how important it is to educate people on the different applications of AI. It’s not just about flashy, conversational bots. Sometimes, AI is the quiet, behind-the-scenes engine that makes things run more efficiently.

At the end of the meeting, they asked for a second session, which I always take as a good sign. I like to think they realized that while PredicAI and Engage360 might not chat with you like Siri, they offer something just as powerful—insights, efficiency, and the ability to drive real results.

In a world overflowing with AI startups, creating your own blue ocean is about more than just offering a product. It’s about educating—helping people see the broader landscape of what AI can do. And maybe, just maybe, convincing them that the quiet power of machine learning and automation is just as exciting as those chatty virtual assistants.

But here’s where it gets interesting: do we need to have an LLM to be considered an AI startup? The more I think about it, the more I wonder if having a chatbot or virtual assistant feature would make Lunash more “sellable” or easier to market. LLMs are definitely in vogue right now, and there's an undeniable appeal to the idea of AI that talks back to you. But does that fit what Lunash is truly about?

I don’t think so. Lunash’s strength lies in its predictive analytics and automation capabilities—two pillars that are quietly powerful and effective. The challenge, I think, is educating the market that there’s more to AI than what you see in the headlines. It’s a broader spectrum, and there’s room for more than one definition of AI success.

Because let’s face it: you can’t choose both. You either blend into the sea of AI noise, or you carve out your own space. At Lunash, we’re opting for the latter. It’s a wide AI spectrum, and we’re proud to be part of it—even if our AI doesn’t say “hello.”
